Description

We recently purchased a 3D printer, and would like to offer our services for your rapid prototyping needs.

This is not a cheap MakerBot machine or an home built open source machine.  We have an industrial grade printer made by Stratasys.  The machine is a Dimension 1200es SST, and it uses a soluble support material.  This support material is added during building to provide rigidity and support underneath overhanging features.  Once the part is finished, we can simply put it into a sodium hydroxide bath and the support material dissolves away leaving only your completed part.

The additive manufacturing industry has really taken off, and we can help you with high quality prototyped parts.  We pride ourselves with high precision, fast turn around, low cost, and customer satisfaction.  The current machine we have is capable of 3D printing a part 10” x 10” x 12” tall.  This allows us to rapid prototype of many parts for multiple industries in today’s market, including: Engineering, Construction, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Medical, Dental, and Education.  Our machine typicaly produces parts with a +/- .005" tolerance.

To get a part on the printer we will need a .STL file, which can  be saved out from any 3D modeling software such as Solidworks, Pro Engineer, Catia, Rhino, and even free versions such as Google Sketch Up.  Many pre-designed files are available from https://grabcad.com/ or https://www.thingiverse.com/

The 3D printing software takes this file and slices it into layers of .010” or .013” (depending on desired resolution).  Once the layers are sliced, the machine creates a tool path at each later in order to fill the part.

We can also make parts with different interior density values.  The software typically leaves  a .040” wall or “shell” around the part, and then does a sparse fill or honeycomb feature inside the part.  You will never see this sparse fill, as it is internal to the part.  We can build your parts with a 100% solid density, 70% high density sparse, or a 30% low density sparse fill.

The material we use is called ABS Plus, and has excellent mechanical features.  This low cost material makes for great prototypes when multiple revisions are needed for test fitting.  It is much cheaper to 3D print the part than machine it from metal on a CNC mill or lathe.  Many times the ABS part is strong enough for an end use part.  Here is a link to the material manufacturer website with all the mechanical properties: http://usglobalimages.stratasys.com/Main/Secure/Material%20Specs%20MS/Fortus-Material-Specs/Fortus-MS-ABSplus-01-13-web.pdf?v=635519045891747060

The ABS material is available in a variety of colors including: Ivory, White, Black, Dark Grey, Red, Blue, Olive Green, Nectarine, and Fluorescent Yellow.

We are located in Manhattan KS (66502) and would be happy to work with any KSU students needing parts made and understand the fast turn around sometimes needed by students at K-State.  We also have shipping accounts with USPS, FedEx, UPS and can ship parts across the country.

Please contact us for a quote on your parts and we will get you pricing within 24 hours.  Please send us the following information with your STL file:

  • .010" or .013" layer resolution
  • 100%, 70%, or 30% inerior density
