Colby Community College is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Residence and Student Life.

Under the supervision of the Director of Residence and Student Life, the Assistant Director of Residence and Student Life shall be responsible for assisting in the operation, planning, coordination and administration of departmental goals and objectives.  This position is a 12-month, live-in position.

*Residence Life Responsibilities*

The Assistant Director of Residence Life is responsible for assisting the director in all facets of residence hall management.  This position is responsible for assisting in the operations of three residential facilities with approximately 300 residents.  A high degree of student interaction is expected.  Evening, weekend, and holiday work is required.   

Additional Responsibilities:

Assist in recruiting, selecting, training, evaluating and supervising resident assistants.

Serve as a primary resource for students, parents and staff in handling residence hall inquires, complaints, roommate conflicts, personal/emotional difficulties, and other concerns regarding the residential community.

Positively promote educational, cultural, social, recreational, service and safety programs through direct involvement with students, faculty and staff.

Assist with policy enforcement and behavioral accountability of students and resolve problems in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Coordinate airport shuttle services at the beginning and ending of each semester.

Manage functions for residence halls such as area cleanliness, key distribution/collection, damage assessment, maintenance requests, room checks, room assignments and residence hall openings/closings.

Participate in essential college activities including, but not limited to, professional development, orientation programming, recruiting and committee service.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other campus offices/personnel.

*Student Life Responsibilities*

The Assistant Director of Student Life is responsible for the presentation of student activities designed to entertain, educate and contribute to the campus environment in a positive manner.  Activities should vary based on student population and purposefully meet the needs of all students.  A wide variety of diverse activities are expected. This position will serve as the primary advisor to the Student Government Association (SGA) and is expected to assist in the continuous development of SGA and its activities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and maintain an educational, cultural, and social student activities program which encompasses student development principles, multiculturalism and diversity.
  • Coordinate the student organization registration process; facilitate student organization and student organization advisor training; develop resources for student organizations and advisors.
  • Prepare regular reports on program activities and progress.
  • Implement, develop, and maintain, an intramural program.
  • Hire, train and supervise student workers.
  • Participate in essential college activities including, but not limited to, professional development, orientation programming, recruiting and committee service.
  • Manage and administer the student life budget.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other campus offices/personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Work experience:

Experience in Residence and/or Student Life required

Travel:

Minimal travel is expected for this position.

Salary:

$16,000-$23,000/per year depending on credentials. Includes Campus apartment and meal plan.

  • Strong leadership, verbal/written communication, organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations of students, staff, faculty and external constituencies
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Computer literacy
