The Medical - Surgical charge nurse is a registered professional nurse directly responsible for the nursing care of all inpatients during his/her twelve hour shift.  This professional is responsible for assignment of duties to shift personnel.  The charge nurse cooperates with all floor nurses and supervises in the planning and organizing of patient care activities.  Needs to have the ability to effectively lead the nursing staff as well as manage the hospital during the off hours.  Requires excellent critical thinking and communication skills.  Must be knowledgeable in ER and OB.  Must be able and willing to serve on call shifts and provide additional assistance or make arrangements with Med Surg Manager.

Minimum Education:  Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree Registered Nurse from an accredited nursing school.  Current Kansas Registered Nurse License.

Minimum Experience: Preferably has been a practicing acute care nurse for minimum 2 years.

Certification or Registration if required:  Current Kansas nursing license, CPR and ACLS certification.  Preferable TNCC, PALS, STABLE, and NRP.
