Salary and Benefits:  The district’s 2017-2018 salary schedule has 12 categories, with salaries ranging from $36,170 to $57,820.  Staff members employed by the school system for the first time can be granted credit for as much as 6 years of experience.  A fringe benefit package includes single medical insurance coverage and term life insurance.

JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Master’s Degree from an accredited institution.

2.Kansas Certification in Building Leadership & Special Education.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

•Knowledge of research, trends, and best practices in Special Student Education.

•Knowledge of state laws, regulations, federal laws, rules and regulations applicable to Special Education.

•Knowledge of Early Childhood Special Education

•Skill in behavior modification

•Skill in writing IEPs

•Skill in drafting procedures to provide special education services.

•Skill in administration and supervision of the Special Education program, staff, budgeting, and facilities.

•Ability to maintain positive working relationship with staff, school center personnel and community.

•Ability to mentor new teachers.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

(1)Initiate new programs

(2)Plan and direct services for all alternate school & ECSE staff.

(3)Work closely with school personnel.

(4)Provide leadership in program evaluations and follow-up procedures.

(5)Ability to mentor new special education teachers

(6)Coordinate integration of special education into the total school program.

(7)Provide leadership in curriculum development, Positive behavior support(e.g. CHAMPS), & Behavior modification.

(8)Work to maintain good public and community relations.

(9)Interview instructional candidates for Special Education areas

(10)Supervise record keeping of students in the program.

(11)Interact with parents, outside agencies, businesses and community to enhance the understanding of system initiatives and priorities and to elicit support and assistance.

(12)Keep SPED Director informed of potential problems or unusual events.

(13)Serve on coop, state or community councils or committees as assigned or appropriate.

(14)Assist in the interpretation of programs, philosophy and policies of the system to staff, students, parents and the community.

(15)Work closely with System and school staffs to support school improvement initiatives and processes.

(16)Keep informed and disseminate information about current research, trends and best practices in areas of responsibility.
