Model 10-FCP-SR. This rifle was set up by Savage as a Law Enforcement tactical trunk gun for a patrol vehicle, and the model is no longer made. It has numerous enhancement over a typical rifle: 20" tapered semi-heavy fluted blue barrel, threaded muzzle for brake or suppressor, tactical elongated bolt handle, Accustock, and 10-round magazine. It came with a cheap rail that I took off immediately. It is now ready for any standard Savage short action bases and rings, or a variety of high quality after-market rail systems.
The 20" tapered semi-heavy fluted barrel is stiff as can be and has excellent consistent barrel harmonics. It's not a rifle to tote around looking for mule deer as it weighs 8lbs, 4oz with an empty 10-round magazine and no mounting hardware or scope. The Accustock internal aluminum bedding encircles the action to virtually eliminate movement (I have just properly re-torqued the Accustock's front and back screws gradually to 40 in-lbs so the chassis of the stock has tightened evenly all the way around the action). It's built to be accurate right out of the box. Also included is a Cheek Eez stock cusion with Beartooth neoprene stock cover, creating great cheek comfort and a consistent cheek weld, in addition to better sight alignment with scope.
I purchased it a couple of years ago. Sighted it in once, and then recently shot it at an 8" plate at 400m with consistent hits. And I'm no rifleperson. The round count is probably at 100, so the barrel may not even be broken in. There are no cosmetic or mechanical issues whatsoever with this rifle. It's capable of very long-range accuracy.
The current Savage model that is similar to this has the Accustock that is more configurable than this one, but it retails in the $750 range, shipped as a street price. Put a 20MOA rail and a quality long range scope on this rifle and you are in business. The magazine release is on the rifle, which means that it takes 4-round 10GC/11GC/14 243/308 quality magazines that are flush to the bottom, not the cheaper plastic ones that have the detaching tab on the magazine.
The stock cushion and cover are about $35.
