Position Summary:Under the direction and supervision of the department management, the financial analyst performs professional accounting work, including analyzing and verifying fiscal records and reports; preparing financial and statistical reports; entering and reconciling general ledger accounts; assists in preparing the annual budget; preparing year-end audit reports and schedules; preparing physician incentive statements and bonus calculations; reviewing expenditures and coding for clinics; educating staff on clinic’s finances; uses good communication and customer service skills; uses professional and ethical judgment and critical thinking when performing their duties; and uses equipment, materials, and systems according to policies, procedures, and practice standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Reports/Assignments: performs account analysis and reconciliation; reconciles monthly bank accounts; maintains spreadsheets/logs; and provides information based upon departmental requests.
  • Analysis-Statistical, Analytical and Financial: gathers appropriate information; creates and updates report; distributes reports to appropriate department; reviews and reports provider expenditures for compliance with contractual allowances; reviews account classification of expenditures to ensure proper coding; and identifies areas for financial improvement and revenue enhancement.
  • Provider Bonuses: prepares monthly bonus computations for providers based on contract; contacts accounting to generate checks; distributes monthly bonus statements; and reconciles annual bonuses/contracts.
  • Monthly Financial Statements: prepares and inputs journal entries; updates supporting schedules; provides revenue and expense analysis; prepares financial statements.
  • Budget Process: assists in the preparation and reporting of the annual budget and analyzes data for reasonableness.
  • Annual Audit/Cost Report: prepares detailed work papers and assists auditors during fieldwork.

Education/Experience: Bachelors degree in accounting or other related field required; previous accounting and physician practice management experience preferred; must be proficient with computer.

Certificates and Licenses: additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations. Specific information and the timeframe in which such certification must be attained will be provided by the department director/manager/supervisor at time of hire/transfer into department.
