Job Duty Description: This is full performance technical work advising and assisting computer users in solving problems in a distributed computing environment. Work includes the installation of hardware and software and demonstrating hardware and software to computer users in classroom and one-on-one situations. Incumbents assist in the selection and installation of information center tools; provides technical assistance to users by resolving problems associated with personal computers, database, and data manipulation; assists users with word processing and spreadsheet applications and with related peripheral equipment. May provide user access and guidance to mainframe applications; designs, installs, maintains and operates small networks.  This position is responsible for Information Technology Systems at Norton Correctional Facility and Norton Correctional Facility East (Stockton).  The primary responsibilities include Domain Administration, Network Server Administration, Hardware and Software support of PC based systems in a distributed computing environment with an emphasis on quality customer support.  This position may be requested to provide assistance outside of their immediate facility and to participate in other IT department lead initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent and one year advising and assisting computer users in a distributed computing environment. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Requirements: Preference will be given to those with two (2) years of Microsoft server administration including system and data backup procedures and Microsoft desktop support; one (1) year network infrastructure administration including planning break fix tasks and upgrades; Necessary Special Qualifications, Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations: CompTIA A+, and CompTIA Network + Certifications Preferred

Selection Process:  Applicants selected for interview will be evaluated by an interview panel using performance/behavior based interview questions, and possibly a performance or written test. The interview panel will make recommendations to the Warden for final approval.  A second interview may be conducted.  Applicants will be subject to background check and criminal history investigation; must pass a drug screen and a TB test unless promoting, transferring, or demoting from another safety sensitive position within the same agency.
