POLICE OFFICER

HAYS POLICE DEPARTMENT

The City of Hays is looking for career-minded individuals who want to serve their community by protecting its citizens as Police Officers. The work schedule includes 12-hour shifts which provides for 3 days off each week including every other weekend off. Some weekends and holidays required.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen & at least 21 years of age within 6 months of application. No felony or domestic violence convictions permitted. Valid driver’s license & High School Diploma or GED required. Law Enforcement Certification, College Degree & Military Experience preferred but not required.

 Paid on-the-job training for the right candidate. All Police Officers are required to live within a 40-mile radius of the City of Hays within 180 days of employment. Job offers contingent on pre-employment tests.

COMPENSATIONS & BENEFITS

CAREER & VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER VACANCIES

The City of Hays is looking for both career and volunteer Firefighters.  If you are looking for a rewarding hands-on career, this is the job for you!

Career: After completion of the training period, this position works 24-hour shifts every third day. Weekend & holiday work is required. Firefighters are expected to respond to major emergency calls when off-duty.

Volunteer: Firefighters receive training to qualify as a Firefighter I and Emergency Medical Technician as well as other in-house training and will respond to calls.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license & High School Degree or GED required. Fire Certifications, a technical degree or some college credit preferred but not required. Paid on-the-job training for the right candidate. All Firefighters must establish their primary residence within the approved district within six-months of appointment.  Job offers contingent on pre-employment physical exam & drug screening.

Compensation & Benefits

Career: Starting Base Pay: $37,225 annually plus additional overtime and holiday pay compensation. Additional pay may be available for experience with opportunities to advance to a Senior Firefighter. Volunteer: Firefighters are given a monthly stipend of $50/month paid annually.
