High Plains Mental Health Center, a Comprehensive Community Mental Health Center currently has a full time position opening for a LPN/LMHT, Mental Health Services in our Hays Main Office.  Qualified candidate works closely with the Center psychiatrists, ARNPs, and RNs in providing help to patients with prescription needs.  The position includes providing patients with teaching materials and assisting patients with community resources as needed. The position requires working cooperatively and effectively with other disciplines. Knowledge of psychopharmacology and psychiatric disorders would be helpful.

Qualifications: Current licensure by the Kansas State Board of Nursing for LPN or current licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Technician.  A minimum of one year of nursing/aid experience in either psychiatric/mental health nursing or in physician office practice preferred.  Must demonstrate competency in the use of technology including computers, various software applications, printers, scanners, telephones, etc.  Must also demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement, to include understanding and application of technology (hardware, software, equipment and processes).

Major Responsibilities:

Assists patients in accessing resources in order to receive needed medication.  This includes utilization of drug company assistance programs, Prescription Network of Kansas program, prescription savings programs, vouchers, coupons and samples, and other community resources in their area. 

Assists patients with following medication instructions and provides medication education as needed to increase knowledge and improve health and safety of patients. Monitors for symptom reduction as well as side effects of medication.

Alerts medication providers regarding concerns with patients and their medication and follows through with recommendation of physicians and APRNs regarding patient care.  Provides timely and objective documentation of such concerns and interventions.

Coordinates care of primary health providers as indicated and directed. Coordinates with Schwaller Center staff as necessary. Coordinates with jail staff as necessary.  Assists with the utilization of telemedicine.

May require limited travel to Community Support Services, Westside School and/or Branch Offices within the workday.

Interacts with external and internal customers in a manner consistent with the Center’s mission (We’re Here For You) and supervisory directives. 

Applicants should possess a valid Kansas driver’s license and a good driving record with no alcohol related incidents within the last five years. Must also be able to successfully pass an intensive background check including KBI, DCF Child/Adult abuse check, and a drug and alcohol screen.
