     The Kansas Department of Transportation is looking for dependable, trainable, team players with good communication skills to become part of our family. KDOT is currently hiring an Equipment Mechanic (UNCLASS) position in Hays, KS.

      Position Duties & Responsibilities: This position performs all types of maintenance repairs on all types of automotive equipment, which could include major mechanical overhaul and repair on light and heavy duty equipment- could include occasional repairs in the field.  Performs tune ups, electrical repairs and adjustment on both automotive and heavy equipment; May occasionally perform oxyacetylene and/or electrical welding and blacksmithing; Performs minor body repairs; Maintains standard shop records, work order and parts orders as necessary.  The selected candidate for this position will be expected to have their own hand tools to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.  On-the-job training is provided to obtain a CDL within sixty days.  An annual $250 Personal Protection Equipment Allowance & $150 Tool Allowance is available.  Insurance benefits, including health, prescription, dental and vision are provided at a minimal cost.  Other benefits include vacation, sick and paid holidays.  This position is subject to pre-employment physical testing and drug testing.  Valid unrestricted driver’s license is required at the time of hire.  Starting pay is $16.55/hour.  KDOT works to foster diversity and looks forward to applications from all qualified applicants.  Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate:  Each applicant applying for a State of Kansas job vacancy must obtain a State Tax Clearance Certificate by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue’s website at  https://www.ksrevenue.org/taxclearance.html  A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual’s account is complaint with all primary Kansas Tax Laws.  Applicants are responsible for submitting their certificate with all other application materials to the hiring agency.  Application and Personal Data forms may be completed on-line at https://admin.ks.gov/services/state-employment-center/.
