OVERVIEW:

This is a full-time, professional prevention education programming position with the small and growing national nonprofit organization, Jana’s Campaign, Inc.  The Education & Prevention Specialist will serve under the direction of the Jana’s Campaign Executive Director and in support of its mission to reduce gender and relationship violence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position provides direct educational programming to students and community members at the secondary and higher education levels as well as community education activities. This includes teaching, program development, event planning, communication, public relations and grant writing tasks. Additionally, this position provides administrative support for other Jana’s Campaign activities.

Higher Education (50%)

Plan and implement multiple prevention education summits each year on various college campuses across the country.

  • Handle all planning, logistics, coordination & marketing for the summits. Including partnering with hosting institutions, creating and managing event budgets, the call for proposal process, speaker recruitment & travel arrangements, working with outside printing partners, registration, day of activities and follow-up reporting/evaluation.
  • Solicit and secure sponsorships for the summits.
  • Stay current on topics relevant for the target audiences.
  • Identify ways to grow and increase the success of the summits.

Secondary Education (35%)

Provide classroom and school-wide presentations to secondary schools in multiple states.

  • Schedule, plan, coordinate and implement secondary education presentations in target areas. Including development of presentation materials, organization of curriculum trainings, and collection of evaluation materials.
  • Assist with marketing secondary education programs to increase the number of schools/students impacted.

Community Education (5%)

Represent the organization at various public speaking events and seek to further expand and market community education efforts.

  • Assist in implementing and marketing prevention education programs for community organizations.

Administrative/Grants (10%)

  • Assist with the planning and coordination of fundraising events.
  • Assist with organization marketing. Including drafting materials, managing social media platforms and working with contracted team members (Web Management, Marketing).
  • Assist with all areas of data collection, database management and program evaluation.
  • Collaborate in selecting and applying for grant funding through public and private institutions. Including drafting applications, tracking and compliance, and evaluation.
  • Provide general office support – phone, email, correspondence, etc.
  • Other support tasks as requested or assigned.

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher education level.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in a team-based environment with students, teachers, faculty, staff, professional speakers, volunteers, donors and community members.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem solving skills and attention to detail. Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet critical deadlines. Excellent organization skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and consent to random drug testing, possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel as needed.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Experienced presenter or public speaker.
  • Knowledge of, experience working on, or personal passion for issues of gender-based violence.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Experience with writing grants or fundraising. 
  • Experience or theoretical knowledge of the education field/systems at the secondary or higher education levels, including curriculum development or implementation.
  • Experience working with youth or youth-led initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Title IX requirements at all levels of the education system.
  • Experience as an independent problem solver while at the same time contributing as a team player.
  • Flexible and welcome to position growth.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Position is based in Hays, Kansas.
  • Travel is required and may be more frequent during specific times of the year.
  • Salary Range: $30,000 – $38,000 plus benefits
