Colby Community College is accepting applications for a part-time Adult Education Instructor to teach on the Colby campus.

The instructor prepares students for next steps by administering assessments, delivering instruction, and developing transitioning skills. This position will assist students in studying to remediate and strengthen basic skills and/or preparing for the high school equivalency (GED) exam. Students will be assisted in transitioning to Career and Technical Education (CTE) and/or Post-Secondary courses and/or employment.

Job Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluate academic readiness through academic advising, individual career and academic plans, and skills development through one-on-one interviews;
  • Teach and mentor students promoting academic skills;
  • Focus instruction on expanding offenders social/emotional communication and conflict resolution;
  • Collaborate with Colby Community College staff to refer students to career readiness, post-secondary, and/or Technical Education (CTE) courses;
  • Develop and implement competency-based teaching aids such as instructional software, multimedia visual aids, or study materials;
  • Use technology to provide blended classes for students from the Northwest Kansas service area (google classroom, Zoom, etc);
  • Partner with Kansas Workforce to assist students in employment prep, search and transitioning;
  • Administer assessments to students to measure progress, and to evaluate readiness for next educational steps; 
  • Prepare reports and maintain records such as attendance rosters, documentation of student achievements and competencies, and contact hours toward certificate completion;
  • Submit all required documentation weekly to appropriate supervisor at Colby Community College;
  • Participate in conferences, seminars and training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field and integrate relevant information into training programs including Norton Correctional Facility mandatory trainings;
  • Actively contribute to the safety and security of the facility through effective offender management and promoting conflict resolution and solutions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Passion for working with students, desire to teach;
  • Exceptional interpersonal/customer service skills;
  • Excellent work ethic, positive attitude, flexibility and willingness to perform tasks assigned;
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality
  • Highly effective organizing, planning and prioritizing skills, ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

COMPENSATION
$18-20 per hour, depending on credentials.
