Engineering Technician Series

The Kansas Department of Transportation is looking for a dependable, trainable, team player with good communication skills to become part of our family.  Currently hiring an Engineering Technician Series position located in Hays, KS. .  This position is full-time, unclassified with benefits. Pay begins at $15.03 per hour. Upon successful completion of one year program employees promote to an Engineering Technician (ET) in the unclassified service at a pay rate of $16.55 per hour.

This is beginning level technical work in engineering and performed according to specific instructions and standards. Work involves performing several basic engineering and mathematical procedures which require following instructions and guidelines plus providing accurate and complete records of that work. Performs or assists other technicians or engineers in the performance of routine engineering tests in the laboratory or field, or inspection on construction projects for compliance with standard practice, specifications, plans, and special provisions.  This includes such things as performing or assisting in testing of construction materials and other standard tests. Performs other related duties as assigned including operates snowplow truck (Class B CDL required) to fill in at various locations as needed.

Skills:

Due to the nature of the work, incumbent may/will be required to work additional hours when needed, including nights and weekends.

Position requires valid driver’s license.  On-the-job training is provided to obtain a CDL within 60 days.   This position is subject to pre-employment physical testing.   The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment in this position.

Compensation: $15.03 per hour
