Large Musical Beer Stein with Metal Lid Plays Danube Waltz

Two old gentlemen share music and a drink on this colorful old musical beer stein. This is a heavy pottery stein with thick sides and bottom. The stein is a rich shade of camel tan; it is painted under the glaze in vibrant shades of dark blue, red, orange, and green. The areas above and below the scene feature beautiful decorative trim. There is a "1L." mark impressed in the upper area. The area at the bottom features a scalloped edge. It has a decorative metal lid that can be opened and closed with a thumb latch that curves upward over the handle. On the side of the stein close to the handle, the numbers "1840" are impressed in the pottery.

Underneath, the stein has a wooden panel that keeps the music box in place. The tag attached to the circular panel has a number "8" in the corner, and the German word "Donauwalzer" — Danube Waltz, which is the tune the music box plays. And play it does! I gave it a few careful turns, and I set the stein down, it tinkled away. The stein is heavy and large, standing 13-1/2" tall. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.

I see no reason you could not fill the stein with your favorite beverage, but you'd better have had your Wheaties that morning. The stein is heavy when empty, and you're going to need your muscles to lift it when loaded with your favorite brew!
