Kitschy Mid Century Pixieware Pixie Elf Candy Trinket Dish or Ash Tray Japan

Add a little kitsch to your decor with this fun dish in the shape of an elf or pixie. His body is the dish, with his chubby hands extended to the sides. He has an expressive smiling face and wears a red hat and red shoes. His white outfit is decorated with red and gold polka dots and is finished with a red collar with a gilt gold heart at the neck. If this originally was an ash tray, I would imagine that his hands were where the cigarettes rested, but this dish is so clean, I don't believe it was ever used as an ash tray. As cute as he is, he'd make a great dish for a few sweet treats or a safe place for your rings and watch on your nightstand or beside your sink. Or, you could let him rest on your bathroom vanity and fill him with yummy smelling bath salts.

This fellow is in very good condition -- for a guy in his 50s or 60s! He has no chips, cracks or flea bites and just some light crazing which can be seen in strong light. He does have paint wear on the back of his red hat and shoes where he's lain on a table ... or two ... or twelve for the past five or six decades. This dish is unmarked, but a number companies in Japan made similar pieces during the pixieware craze of the 1940s and 1950s. The dish measures 7" long and is 4-3/4" wide; it is about 1-3/4" deep.
