Description

Guitar and bass have become an instruments in high demand. Some people play as a hobby, some are working towards a professional career, and some even use it as exercise to keep their hands limber. Whatever your reasoning, music is a great way to relax, release some stress, and put all your pent up emotion into something productive. I'm a senior at Fort Hays State University, and have been playing guitar and bass for going on 10 years now. I've played in many bands along the way which has kept me playing for the ENTIRE 10 years. I've also studied music for over 14 years beginning at the piano in the second grade.

What to Expect:

Beginners:

During the first lesson we cover how to hold the guitar, the pick, and the basics of playing the guitar including how your fingers are numbered and what the strings are called. I also explain how to play your first chord and give you a diagram of what we will be learning in the next few weeks.

By the end you will know how to:

  • Read music
  • Label the strings
  • Label the notes on the fretboard
  • Play many chords such as G, C, D, Dm, A, Am, E, Em, F, etc.
  • Read guitar tablature
  • Keep learning on your own if you should decide to discontinue private lessons
  • and more

Intermediate:

If you already know how to play G, C, D, Dm, A, Am, E, Em, and F, as well as know at least the basics of the fretboard then we will begin with scales and progress from there based on what you already know.

By the end you will know everything a beginner knows plus how to:

  • Perform guitar harmonics
  • Perform scales
  • Solo over a chord progression
  • Write your own music
    • including lead, and rhythm parts
  • Transcribe music
  • and morE
