Bonzo Dog Salt & Pepper Shakers - Vintage Cartoon Character

During the 1920s and 1930s, Bonzo the Dog was a super star. First created in 1922 by George Studdy, he was a cute little roly-poly pup with a droopy face and saggy skin. He had one black ear and one white, some small black spots on his body and a short little stub of a tail. Bonzo’s film career launched in 1924 at the Marble Arch Pavilion with the premier of the first of 26 cartoons, “Sausage Snatching Sensation," one of the first cartoons ever!

These Bonzo salt and pepper shakers probably date to the 1930s or 1940s. The dogs have brown paws, and are marked "I'm Salt" and "I'm Pepper." Each shaker is 3" tall; they have black "Made in Japan" ink stamps on the bottom. The shakers are in very good condition with no chips or cracks. There is a little wear to the paint in spots (see photos), and the end of one of the corks is rough. I didn't try to remove either cork because cork becomes brittle with age.
