Red Cross Phlebotomists spend each day working at mobile blood drives assessing the eligibility of a donor through confidential health histories and performing phlebotomy on healthy volunteer donors. The work is repetitive -- we have to guarantee the consistency of the blood supply -- but the variety comes in the places visited and the diverse donors at each drive.
SCHEDULING: Red Cross collects blood during the week, on weekends and holidays. Typically STAFF TRAVEL OVERNIGHT MONDAY - FRIDAY throughout the state of KS and northern OK and are only home on weekends. Hotel accommodations & meal stipends are provided; Red Cross vehicles are used for travel. Staff work one weekend a month, with weekdays off when this occurs. Red Cross provides work schedules 2-3 weeks in advance, although changes may be necessary. Candidates must confirm availability for flexibility in scheduling and for overnight travel.
TRAINING: Paid training is provided for the position and lasts 12-14 weeks, with no time off allowed during training. Position is non-exempt, $10.30 per hour and includes an excellent benefits package.
