Position Summary

The Outreach Advocate works in the community to promote awareness of Options core services to increase victim access to services. It will also involve outreach activities to increase community knowledge and traffic to Options services and provide direct support to victims and survivors. 

Essential Functions

FVPSA – 50%

1.       Collaborate with the Community Services Coordinator to develop and participate in National Domestic Violence Awareness Month activities, and National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month activities.

a.       Build and maintain relationships with collaborative partners and cultivate new partnerships.

2.       Facilitate community presentations to bring awareness to domestic/dating violence issues.

3.       Maintain, and create new relationships with a variety of community partners and allied professionals in order to increase victim access to domestic and dating violence services.

4.       Provide direct services to victims and ensure proactive service delivery and follow-up.

a.       Respond to on-call requests for victims, sometimes at various locations including, but not limited to, law enforcement centers, hospitals, on-scene (as requested by law enforcement) and other public locations.

b.       Provide all 13 Core Domestic Violence Services (and dating violence) in accordance with the Advocate Manual and other agency protocols.

                                                     i.     Provide victim services in accordance with the agency’s Guiding Principles.

c.       Assist victims to develop safety plans, both immediate and long term.

d.       Perform victim screening and intakes, as assigned.

5.       Provide victims with resources, referrals for other services, and assist victims to apply for community resources such as housing, drug/alcohol counseling, mental health services, financial assistance, etc.

6.       Assist victims to complete and submit Victim Compensation applications.

7.       Participate in community awareness events and activities including, but not limited to, circuit trips and health fairs.

8.       Meet walk-in clientele, and perform screening and intake, as needed.

9.       Provide program deliverables as outlined in grant project narrative.

SGF – 50%

b.       Provide all 12 Core Sexual Assault Services and all 13 Core Domestic Violence Services in accordance with the Advocate Manual and other agency protocols.

c.       Assist victims to develop safety plans, both immediate and long term.

d.       Perform victim intakes, as assigned.

11.    Provide victims with referrals for other services and assist victims to apply for community resources such as housing, drug/alcohol counseling, mental health services, financial assistance, etc.

12.    Facilitate public awareness activities and presentations in schools, community centers or other public forums that are designed to identify crime victims and provide or refer them to needed services.

13.    Assist victims to complete and submit Victim Compensation applications.

14.    Meet walk-in clientele, and perform screening and intake, as needed.

15.    Provide program deliverables as outlined in grant project narrative.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Work may also be performed at alternate locations including the safe shelter, partner offices, law enforcement centers, and courts.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Employees may be required to lift up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Travel

Travel is primarily local (within the 18 county service area) during the business day, although some out of the area and overnight travel will be expected.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with a minimum of one year related experience

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in relevant field with a minimum of three years’ recent, related experience OR

High School Diploma/GED with five consecutive years of continuous experience in a related field

·        Must have valid Kansas Driver’s License with clean driving record, reliable transportation w/ valid vehicle insurance and ability to transport victims in personal vehicle, as needed.

·        Ability to work in the United States.
