The Position (Under Supervision of the Parks Superintendent and Leadworker)

This is a full-time position involving heavy manual labor tasks associated with taking care of city grounds. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Mow, weed eat, rake, trim, saw, water grass, shrubbery, and trees throughout city parks.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair park equipment, city vehicles and structures.
• Apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers within city limits to maintain landscaping.
• Safely operate heavy machinery, including tractors, mowers, dump trucks, water/sprayer trucks, bucket boom trucks, and chainsaws.
• Assist with locating/staking grave sites and stone settings.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Experience in ground maintenance and/or landscaping is required.
• Valid Kansas Driver’s License required. Ability to obtain a Class B CDL within one (1) year of hire.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required chemical/pest control application certification from the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
• Ability to complete arborist training as required by the Kansas Arborists Association.
• Applicants may reside outside of the city, subject to response times as administratively determined and required for the department

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two years of college-level or technical education.
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
