POLICE OFFICER

HAYS POLICE DEPARTMENT

The City of Hays is looking for career-minded individuals who want to serve their community by protecting its citizens as Police Officers. The work schedule includes 12-hour shifts which provides for 7 days off within a 14-day period including every other weekend off.  Weekends & holidays required.

REQUIREMENTS

Kansas Law requires applicants must be a U.S. Citizen & at least 21 years of age within 6 months of application. No felony or domestic violence convictions permitted. Valid driver’s license & High School Diploma or GED required.

Hays Police Department requires a good attitude, willingness to learn and a drive to protect your community. Applicants will be trained on the rest & will be paid their normal wages while attending the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) to obtain their certifications.

Police Officers are required to live within a 40-mile radius of the City of Hays within 180 days of employment. Job offers contingent on pre-employment tests.

COMPENSATIONS & BENEFITS

DISPATCHER

CITY OF HAYS

The City of Hays is looking for their next employee to be a lifeline for citizens of Ellis County as well as Law Enforcement, Fire, & EMS personnel. Dispatchers are responsible for making sure citizens get quick responses for the help they need by answering both emergency & non-emergency calls.

The work schedule includes 12-hour shifts which provides for 7 days off within a 14-day period including every other weekend off.  Weekends & holidays required.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED required. This position requires working in a fast-paced environment where quick decisions are vital. The ability to multitask, enter data into the computer system as well as keeping confidentiality & the ability to communicate effectively is essential.

Paid on-the-job training for the right candidate. All Dispatchers are required to live within a 40-mile radius of the City of Hays within 6 months of employment. Job offer is contingent upon pre-employment testing.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay range: $16.54 - $27.09 with mandatory overtime plus holiday pay compensation. PART TIME COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER

HAYS POLICE DEPARTMENT

The City of Hays is accepting applications for Part Time Community Service Officers.  This position is responsible for responding to non-criminal calls for service, traffic control, parking enforcement, crowd control and assist with animal control issues. Additional responsibilities include assisting with investigations and search warrants, performing welfare checks, assisting with civil complaints, and enforcing laws and ordinances. Employees may be assigned to additional duties as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age (desired intent of this position is a steppingstone into sworn Hays police officer), must possess a high school degree or equivalency, valid driver’s license with a good driving record, and must not possess any history of felonies or misdemeanors involving deception or domestic violence. Previous experience and bilingual skills preferred but not required. Background check, substance abuse screening and post offer physicals performed. 

COMPENSATION

Starting pay range for this position is $15.31 with annual pay increases.
