The North Oak Community Church (NOCC) Custodian position is designed to serve in the day-to-day operations of the church and provide janitorial and maintenance to the church building and office building in order to keep the church functioning throughout the week in and around the different ministry outreaches and services.

Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES

Janitorial-The Custodian keeps the church buildings clean and organized ahead of events and scheduled ministries at the church or on the church grounds; maintains general maintenance of church grounds; cleans sanctuary, hallways, bathrooms and classroom in the church building and emptying all trash prior to Sunday; cleans kitchen in the church building on a weekly basis or prior to scheduled events; clean office building including all pastoral offices, office manager’s office, classrooms, bathrooms and kitchen weekly or prior to scheduled events.  General requirements for the custodian are: vacuuming carpet, spot cleaning carpet, dusting, trash collections, arranging chairs, moving furniture, mopping, and setting up and tearing down after special events.

Maintenance- Maintain the church buildings as needed if and when maintenance does not require a licensed professional.  These items may include, but not limited to; touch-up painting, checking outlet covers, replacing lightbulbs, picking up trash around building and in landscape areas, sweeping approaches to buildings, etc.  The Custodian will need to stay in frequent communication with the Buildings and Grounds Coordinator, keeping them apprised of major maintenance issues that may arise.  The Custodian is responsible for identifying, documenting and addressing maintenance issues that the church buildings may have.

-Self-starter who is able to work independently, recognize needs/gaps/opportunities, and initiate suggestions to improve church processes

-Possessing key character qualities: dependable, encourager, joyful, gentle, loyal, secure, servant-minded, forgiving, self-disciplined

-Shall have a philosophy of humble cooperation that encourages and strengthens teamwork

SCHEDULE

Part-time position – 25-Hour Work Week

Work Hours – Hours are flexible around the needs of the church building and staff.   As of this application process the church has scheduled children and youth events on Wednesday from 3-9 and services on Sunday morning.  Hours should be formed around those times to ensure the spaces are clean prior to their usage.

WAGES

Hourly wage starting between $12 and $14 per hour.  

EVALUATION

Initial evaluation will be conducted after 3 months of employment. A second evaluation will be conducted after 6 months of employment. Thereafter, evaluation will be done annually and will include evaluation by the Lead Pastor and a self-evaluation.

ABOUT NORTH OAK COMMUNITY CHURCH
North Oak Community Church (NOCC) is located in Hays, Kansas and is a church of over 350 members.  The church is affiliated with the Mennonite Brethren and has a mission “to grow in Christ, live connected and take Jesus to others.”  NOCC has four full-time ministry staff and one full-time and one part-time support staff.  The congregation is an evangelical church with members from differing theological backgrounds and geographic locations in northwest Kansas, but are all united around the Gospel of Christ and the authority, inerrancy, and sufficiency of the Word of God.
