Junior Youth (12 & under) - $15 per ride

Senior Youth (13-17) - $15 per ride

Novice - $25 per ride

50% Payback on all classes

Can ride with same partner 2 times per class

FINNEY COUNTY RANCH SORTING INFORMATION/RULES

Youth Class

Run as a ranch hand class - one person designated a sorter, and one person designated a gate holder

  • 5 ride limit (no draw)
  • $15 per ride (Sorter pays, gate doesn't pay)
  • Same gate holder up to 2 times
  • Gate holder does not pay
  • Money and points will be awarded to the sorter
  • *Junior Division - 12 years old and under
  • *Senior Division - 13-17 years old

Novice Class

This class is for contestants new to ranch sorting or limited riding experience

  • $25 per rider
  • 1 novice + 1 open rider, the open rider will have to be the gate person
  • 2 novice riders can switch between holding the gate and sorting
  • Novice and Open rider rating will be under our discretion.  To keep the competititon fair and competitive, please be honest about your riding abilities.  FCRS will have the authority to bump you to an open rider, at any point in the year.
  • *AUTOMATIC DRAW* Random partner
    • If you sign up for 1-5 rides in this class, you will AUTOMATICALLY get 1 draw partner.
    • If you sign up for 6-10 rides in this class, you will AUTOMATICALLY get 2 draw partners
    • If you don't have partners, you can put it in 1-12 draws, depending on how many rides you want.
  • 10 pick limit + with 2 draw partners = 12 rides total

Open Class

This class is open for anyone to ride.

  • $25 per rider
  • You can choose one rider to stay in the gate, or you can switch during your ride.  This will be up to you and your partner
  • *AUTOMATIC DRAW* Random partner
    • If you sign up for 1-5 rides in this class, you will AUTOMATICALLY get 1 draw partner.
    • If you sign up for 6-10 rides in this class, you will AUTOMATICALLY get 2 draw partners
    • If you don't have partners, you can put in 1-12 draws, depending on how many rides you want.
  • 10 pick limit + with 2 draw partners = 12 rides total

Points

  • You MUST attend 4 shows (either in Garden City or Holly, CO) to be eligible for year-end prizes.
  • Only YOUTH riders, the sorter, will be awarded points in the youth class.
  • Junior and Senior youth division points will be calculated separately.
  • All riders placing in the top 10 per class will receive points.  The points that are received will be calculated depending on your rating.  (Example: Open riders who have place 2nd in the novice class, will have 9 points added to their overall point total)
  • Points are as follows 1st -10pts, 2nd -9pts, 3rd -8pts, 4th -7pts, 5th -6pts, 6th -5pts, 7th -4pts, 8th -3pts, 9th -2pts, 10th -1pt.
  • We will double the points if there are more than 50 teams in the class

Payout

  • All classes have a 50% payout.  The youth will pay back 50% towards the sorter only.
  • Payout will be 1 place for every 10 teams
  • Youth payout per teams will be determined on the day of the show

 

  • No roughing the cattle.  This includes, but not limited to, slapping, kicking, horse biting, or hitting the cattle with your reins, If the judge sees any roughing, you will be DQ'd from the run.
  • We will bring back the top 10 to the finals
  • Entries MUST be in the office BEFORE the finals of the previous class
  • No arguing with the judge.  The judge's calls are final, and harassment of the judge will not be tolerated.
  • All announcements on the day of the show, supersede any postings
  • We want to keep it as FUN and FAIR as possible
