Summary

Assists Dietary Supervisor with the activities of the Dietary Department providing quality food service and nutritional care for the patient/resident population, visitors, guests and hospital staff.  Follows the established policies and procedures in accordance with facility policies, standard practices of the profession and related local, state, and federal laws.  Acts as a resource person to staff and management in the absence of the dietary manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintains procedures at all times during food preparations.

May perform nutritional assessments on all swing bed patients and documents findings in the medical record, using established assessment forms with required approval signature of CDM and/or RD.

May provide educational material to patients on therapeutic diets and documents patient acceptance and understanding of the educational material.

Is sensitive to emotional, spiritual and practical needs of patients/residents, family members, guests and staff members in all interactions.

Is responsible in assisting the Dietary Manager in maintaining a clean kitchen facility in a safe and sanitary manner including floors, walls, all equipment and utensils.

May prepare and submit food and supply orders with vendors.

Assists the Dietary Manager in working with staff from other departments to solve problems and improve processes and services.

Assists and supports the Dietary Manager in supervising, evaluating and counseling dietary personnel.

Assists in planning and preparing foods for special facility functions as directed by Dietary Manager.

Is responsible for assisting in the scheduling of all dietary personnel with Dietary Manager final approval.

Assists in training new dietary personnel with department specific orientation at the direction of the Dietary Manager.

Attends and completes in-services and meetings as required for the dietary department.

Is responsible for filling and/or working positions as needed.
