Summary

Performs a variety of imaging procedures and is responsible for patient safety protocols.  Functions as the first line interface with patients in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs.  Also responsible for cleaning and disinfecting equipment and work areas.  Greets patients, sets up their appointments and gives patients the proper patient examination prep.  Participates in quality improvement activities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.

Responsible for safe handling of equipment, cassettes, and films.

Instructs and prepares patients for examinations.

Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure and makes appropriate provider contact for intervention if needed.

Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedure.

Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly.

Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures.

Follows standard precautions at all times.

Assists in maintaining basic records and reports.

Assists in maintaining files.

Assists in training of ancillary personnel.

Interacts professionally with patient/family.

Interacts professionally with patient/family.

Completes all work before clocking out and leaving.  This includes checking with the charge nurse and/or provider on call backs.

Is acquainted with local fire and safety regulations.

Has knowledge of hospital policies and the functions of the other departments.

Provides care appropriate to condition and age of patient, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and the general population.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

Initiates the meeting of responsibilities without prompting.

Demonstrates the values of team concept on a consistent basis.

Maintains a good working relationship with clinic staff and providers.

Uses accurate, clear and concise oral and written communication as well as must be able to understand written and oral instructions pertaining to orders, examinations, and machine operations.

Expresses excellent judgment, discretion and decision making abilities.

Maintains proper consent forms needed for each Imaging Services examination.

Makes correct appointments for daily patient workload.

Maintains daily patient schedule.

Transports patients to and from the Imaging Services Department.

Maintain proper quality assurance on the different machines.

Responsible for correctly charging out and documenting all patient exams in the Electronic Medical Record.

Able to perform some or all examinations in X-Ray, Computed Tomography (CT), Bone Density (DEXA), Electrocardiogram (EKG), Holter Monitors, Ultrasound and also assist with or perform any other examinations/modalities offered by SCHC.
