Hays Veterinary Hospital is looking for a responsible individual who has respect and appreciation for animals health and wellness to join our staff!

Job Summary:

The veterinary assistant/kennel attendants are responsible for providing excellent patient care, supporting the veterinary/nursing/front office staff as needed, and maintaing cleanliness of the pets and the facility.  Part-time position up to 25 hours (max) a week. Involves early mornings, afternoons, weekends, school breaks, holidays, and all types of weather.  Must be 16 years of age or older.

Specific Duties:

1.    Provide compassionate and attentive care to all pets at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance.  

2.    Maintain a clean and healthy environment for all pets, patients, and staff.  Including: scrubbing/ sanatizing kennels and dishware, picking up/removing animal waste.

3.    Assist other team members in keeping public areas clean and odor-free.

4.    Feeding and providing water for pets, including providing special diets as needed.

5.    Provide walks/exercise for pets and patients. 

5.     Monitoring the health of hospitalized pets and patients on an ongoing basis by rapidly identifying any health problems or conditions (medical or behavioral) and immediately reporting them to management, nurses, or staff veterinarians.

6.    Humanely restraining animals for vaccinations, examinations, performance of medical treatments, and euthanasia as needed. 

7.     Maintaining a professional, cheerful, and helpful attitude when interacting with clients and pets.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to:

·         Learn basic veterinary terminology;

·         Communicate in a clear, concise, understandable manner;

·         Basic computer skills, including ability to learn veterinary management software;

·         Be proactive! Be reliable! Be kind!

Physical Requirements

The Veterinary Assistant/Kennel Attendant will be required to stand for long periods of time and be able to lift a minimum of 40lbs unassisted.
