Mom has a good nose and instincts, chasing rabbits in a corn field if you let her, from PA.  Dad is of european blood lines, bigger, more skin, more color patterns, from IA.  Combination makes for perfect house and yard dogs  

I have three adult dogs at the farm, my two bassets and my livestock guardian dog, and all are taken cared of like family. Bassets are by far the best house dogs in my experience.
