Early Childhood Connections (ECC)

General Function:

Provides instructional mentoring/ coaching for teaching staff and completes scheduled classroom quality environmental tools to help ensure a quality early childhood program.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides instructional support and targeted feedback for classroom staff and volunteers. 

  • Collaborates and plans with Education Coordinator to determine which classrooms would benefit most from additional instructional support. 
  • Collaborates and plans with the Education Coordinator to determine which teaching staff would benefit from direct instructional support. 
  •  Collaborates and plans with Education Coordinator to determine daily/weekly schedule. 
  • Models and provides feedback to promote staff development on targeted professional goals. 
  • Participates in classroom staffings for children as appropriate. 
  • Provides classroom support, including modeling and feedback, as intervention plans from staffings are implemented. 
  • Assists Education Coordinator with classroom monitoring tools as appropriate. 
  • Plan and conduct monthly teacher assistant training based on program professional development goals. 
  •  Assists in classrooms as needed to meet staffing performance standards. 
  •  Assists in classrooms as needed to support children with elevated needs. 

 

  • 2. Attends trainings related to the position with the expectation of implementation. 
  •  Complete CLASS training and maintain yearly certification. 
  •  Complete and maintain Non-Crisis Intervention certification. 
  •  Attend trainings as needed related to program education initiatives. 
  •  Assist the Education Coordinator in the program implementation of these trainings.


3. Assists in screenings and data collection. 

  • Participates in various developmental screenings of children. 
  •  Assists in the data entry and monitoring of selected screening results. 
  •  Assists in the collection of data for a variety of reports (e.g. program participation, activity, etc.) for the purpose of meeting program, district, state, and federal requirements. 

 

4. Promotes and respects the Code of Ethical Conduct as set forth by the NAEYC. 

  • Maintains a professional manner and appearance at all times. 
  •  Insures confidentiality. 
  • Participates in the development and implementation of a professional development plan. 
  • Adheres to a mandatory reporting policy for child abuse and neglect. 


5. Completes all other duties as assigned.

Scope of position: Reports to the director. Receives limited supervision with responsibilities defined by School District and Head Start Performance Standards. Work assessment is primarily based on collaboration with the Education Coordinator and goal achievement. Position includes solving problems with staff and children. It requires the ability to select and interpret appropriate guidelines and procedures.
 Ongoing professional development is an integral part of the position.

 Knowledge, skills and technical ability: Bachelor’s Degree with a teaching certificate in one of the following: 

  •  Early Childhood Education (ECE) 
  • Early Childhood Special Education 
  •  Elementary Education with a Child Development Associate (CDA) 
  •  Family and Child Development with a certificate in Early Childhood Education (ECE) 
  • Three years teacher experience (preschool preferred) 



Willing to certify:

  • CPR 
  • First Aid 
  • CLASS 
  • CPI 



Must pass prior to starting position: 

  • TB skin test 
  • Kansas Bureau of Investigation background check 
  • Physical Exam 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Frequent lifting of 10-25 lbs. 
  •  Occasional lifting & moving of 50 lbs. 
  •  Bending, squatting, and kneeling occur frequently daily. 
  •  Fine manipulation occurs frequently. 



Requires: 

  •  Proficient communication skills including oral, written, and small group facilitation. 
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively lead and motivate staff, families, and volunteers. 
  • Advanced organizational and decision-making skills to concurrently teach and manage staff, children, parents, volunteers, and resources.
  •  Willingness to work a flexible schedule and as a team player.
  •  Valid Driver’s License and reliable means of transportation. 


 Spends approximately 60% of the time in classrooms providing instructional support through modeling and observing, as well as verbal and written feedback; 10% of the time training, 15% of the time completing environmental classroom rating scales/tools; 10% of the time with the Education Coordinator for collaboration and planning; 5% of the time completing screenings and entering data results.
 
Salary: Based on USD 489 Teacher Salary Schedule
