The Kansas Department of Transportation is looking for dependable, trainable, team players with good communication skills to become part of our family. KDOT is currently hiring an Equipment Mechanic (UNCLASS) position in Hays, KS.

      Position Duties & Responsibilities: This position performs all types of maintenance repairs on all types of automotive equipment, which could include major mechanical overhaul and repair on light and heavy-duty equipment- could include occasional repairs in the field.  Performs tune ups, electrical repairs and adjustment on both automotive and heavy equipment; May occasionally perform oxyacetylene and/or electrical welding and blacksmithing; Performs minor body repairs; Maintains standard shop records, work order and parts orders as necessary.  The selected candidate for this position will be expected to have their own hand tools to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.  On-the-job training is provided to obtain a CDL within sixty days. . 

This position is subject to pre-employment physical testing and drug testing.  Valid unrestricted driver’s license is required at the time of hire. 

Starting pay is $23.31/hour.
