Description

Colby Community College is seeking applicants for an Adult Education Instructor  and Tablet Manager at Norton Correctional Facility, located in Norton, Kansas. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work with diverse multi-level adult learners
  • Maintain regular records of progress within coursework and demonstrate an ability to assist those not meeting checkpoints/showing progress.
  • Complete all required paperwork for Colby Community College and the Kansas Board of Regents.
  • Maintain and submit all necessary paperwork for local, state and federal reports in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with CCC, NCF, and KBOR for tasks and requirements.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Adult Education (AE) Tablet Manager/Instructor reports to both the Director of Adult Education (Colby) and the Colby Community College Program Coordinator (Norton Correctional Facility). The individual is responsible for providing appropriate educational services to those qualifying for Adult Education. This individual will be required to adhere to prison policies and procedures and adapt with flexibility to the schedule required at the prison.

As Tablet Coordinator/Adult Education Tutor, the individual is responsible for the maintenance of tablets, and the retrieving of and submission of data from tablets issued within Norton Correctional Facility-appropriate parties. They are responsible for individual educational plan assignments and consistent communication with students to determine tutoring needs within the Adult Education/GED courses offered at NCF.

As AE Instructor, the individual:

  • Maintains all required credentials and certifications;
  • Conducts the adopted intake process for all students;
  • Pre-tests all potential students; post-tests all students;
  • Collects all demographic data required on students;
  • Maintains a current file on each student, including goals, testing records, and a plan for educational gain;
  • Provides instruction in AE/GED prep at site;
  • Maintains and submits accurate weekly attendance;
  • Files accurate, complete and timely quarterly reports;
  • Teaches in the classroom the number of hours per week specified by the employment contract;
  • Uses additional contract time for paperwork and classroom preparation;
  • Actively recruits adult students for the program;
  • Takes action to monitor those students not attending;
  • Reports to supervisor regularly concerning local activities;
  • Submits requests for needed materials and equipment;
  • Effectively communicates with, cooperates with and supports other college personnel in daily activities;
  • Participates in essential college activities including but not limited to professional development, institutional effectiveness, recruiting and committee service;
  • Represents the College in a professional manner as evidenced by dress, demeanor, and the discharge of daily responsibilities in keeping with the mission of the institution;
  • Promotes, supports, and facilitates student learning;
  • Fulfills other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or college administrators.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Training, experience, and/or coursework in individual learning methods of basic academic skills, including reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Basic technology experience
  • Ability to gain clearance from the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) to work within the facility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience in a prison facility
  • Adult Education/General Educational Development experience

 

SALARY

$38,000-$42,000, depending on credentials and experience.
