Description

The Custodial Services Supervisor supervises the day-to-day custodial services operations on the college campus. The Custodial Services Supervisor supervises custodial staff, including student employees, to ensure a clean and safe environment for students and staff and compliance with applicable college policies, standards, and regulatory agency codes. This position reports to the Director of Maintenance.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with College standards and applicable regulatory codes to maintain a safe environment for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Supervises all custodial staff, including student employees, for the college campus. Hires, trains, evaluates, disciplines, and recommends dismissal of student employees as necessary.
  • Identifies employee resources and expertise and utilizes employee experiences and skills to plan, schedule, assign, and perform custodial and other activities.
  • Meets with staff regularly. Conducts ongoing training and custodial inspections.
  • Maintains an accurate record of attendance and ensures that all employee and student employee electronic timecards are accurate before electronically approving for payroll.
  • Works with campus to coordinate essential support at special events, athletic activities, banquets, department moves or changes, and/or other applicable events that affect the assigned staffing.
  • Participates in identifying, recommending, and implementing opportunities for improved custodial services.
  • Requisitions services, supplies, equipment, and materials to ensure efficient operations of campus or center; monitors and maintains inventories.
  • Utilizes a computerized maintenance system for communication, tracking work orders, etc.
  • Ensures that service requests are completed in an appropriate and timely manner and closed or referred according to department procedures.
  • Designated as “essential” personnel and required to respond to calls/messages from assigned employees at all hours.
  • Effectively communicates with, cooperates with, advises with, coordinates with, and supports all custodial staff;
  • Conducts monthly building inspections for repairs and cleanliness.
  • Maintains positive relationships with faculty and staff.
  • Coordinates and communicates frequently with the Director of Maintenance as required to ensure maintenance and custodial responsibilities are completed as a team effort.
  • Assists in examining every building for safety hazards; reports deficiencies to the Director of Maintenance and/or Director of Compliance.
  • Conducts employee performance evaluations that are timely and constructive. 
  • Handles employee discipline as needed and per policy. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled custodial activities to include, but not limited to, vacuuming, dust mopping, and/or wet mopping, emptying trash containers, restroom cleaning, wiping whiteboards and chalkboards, painting, changing light bulbs, washing windows, and other various cleaning tasks in all buildings;
  • Assists in cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and other high-trafficked areas; 
  • Maintains safe and efficient working conditions of equipment;
  • Performs minor repairs and maintenance such as replacing light fixtures or unclogging pipes;
  • Reports preventative maintenance needs to maintenance personnel when needed;
  • Performs tasks supporting grounds maintenance during periods of inclement weather, specifically spreading ice melt near building entrances and on campus sidewalks;
  • Accurately records data related to cleaning chemicals, cleaning supplies, electrical supplies, and paper goods on inventory control sheets;
  • Operates job-related equipment including but not limited to an auto scrubber, industrial-size vacuum, and wet/dry vacuum;
  • Supports the daily operation of the custodial team;
  • Ensures and maintains a neat and orderly custodial room for each building; ensures cleaning and maintenance supplies are stocked;
  • Effectively communicates with, cooperates with, and supports other college personnel in daily activities;
  • Participates in essential college activities including but limited to professional development, institutional effectiveness, recruiting, and committee service;
  • Represents the College in a professional manner as evidenced by dress, demeanor, and the discharge of daily responsibilities in keeping with the mission of the institution;
  • Assumes responsibility for promoting, supporting, and facilitating student learning;
  • Performs and fulfills all other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance and/or college administrators.

  • Ability to keep the employees/student employees on task and keep all buildings clean and orderly.
  • Ability to interact with staff, students, parents, and visitors at school while remaining professional, polite, and courteous.


SALARY

$35,000-40,000 per year, depending on credentials and experience. Flexible benefits program that includes options for single and family health and dental coverage, life insurance, reimbursement accounts, sick leave, and vacation leave allowances. Participation in the state retirement program is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • One to three years of related experience is required.
  • Associate degree or certification/s related to the field of work is preferred.
  • One to three years of supervisory experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing.
  • Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Most work is performed in environmentally controlled buildings. Exposure to fumes, noxious odors, dust, mists, gases, and hazardous chemicals exists;
  • Must have the ability to follow work schedules (School Hours:  10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Summer Hours:  8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
