Description

Ready to meet one of the most remarkable cows I have ever had the pleasure to train?
Athena is an A2/A2, BLV, BVD, & Jhones NEGATIVE 3-year-old Brown Swiss that was born on 3-26-21 and freshened for the first time on April 22nd 2024. Her results are up-to-date as I pulled blood and sent to Central Star on May 24th 2024.
I have been reluctant to post this cow as I have been so tempted to add her to my personal milking herd. She is a cow that is built to last and going to be a long-time high producing cow!
Athena is currently producing 7 gallons a day in her first lactation! She has slowly been increasing this amount and has a few more weeks left before she reaches her peak. Next lactation, I would expect her to do more! She has a decent 2-inch cream line on her milk. If you have a herd share or milk company, she would be a nice addition!
Athena would be a good fit for a first time family all the way to an experienced owner.  She is gentle on the ground, never pulls when being lead, leads right where you want her to go, loads in and out of a trailer, meets you at the gate when called, and stands tied. I milk her at 8am and 8pm, and I did include a video of her milk routine. When I go to milk, I open the gate, and she goes directly to the garage where I milk, and she will wait until I get there to open the door and get set up. I do not tie her (in the video I did from her pictures before we milked) when she is being milked. She stands freely with the claw milker on (no stanchion or hobbles needed). I do hook her up and leave her while I run water or get bottles ready for calves. She is not one you have to babysit. Has never kicked the milker off or left the area until you were ready for the next cow. As you can see from the video, she has been exposed to all kinds of chaos and farm animals while she is milking. Between kittens running under her waiting for milk, dogs running in and out of the garage, and a pet sheep requiring attention, she stands solid!
Athena is an eye-catcher as she carries the darker coat of a Swiss, has a beautiful square bag with 4 good working quarters with long hand milking teats, and has an easy keeping body. She does receive grain while she is milking (mix of distillers corn, wet brewers grain, molasses, sweet feed, alfalfa pellets, = 18-20% feed). After she is done milking her is placed back in a two acre pen with electric fence and receives a flake of alfalfa (twice a day) and has a brome bale that she can freely eat, mineral, a salt block, as well as green grass to graze on. She is in the pen with one other Swiss that she gets along great with and does really well with 4 other jerseys. Not a dominant cow.
Athena is ready to meet her forever family! She is good in all four quarters, no mastitis issues, no health issues, and just had her hooves trimmed for the year on May 3rd 2024 by our vet. I will have a buyback contract on this cow. I do have a trailer going to Montana in the second week of June and can put her on the trailer for a lower delivery fee! Furthermore, I do have other delivery options as well and go out of state regularly! Not only that, but I can have my vet do a health certificate and any other tests you need.
Athena is located at JEM Farms in Lindsborg Kansas. Call or text Emma at 785-294-1702 (Calling me is the best way to get a hold of me with any questions.).
