Some small dogs think they can fly-and almost do! But jumping onto furniture 3 times their height and then back down often eventually can hurt their joints or back. These cushions eliminate that problem. The 1ft height is a comfortable height for the first jump. Then the cushion surface is wide enough for them to take a step, get their back feet under them to get another full push off onto the furniture. Almost more important is that the jump down is not jarring at all, preventing injury later in their life.  Show the dog to use it once, they use it every time. Often they like just laying on top of it like a bed as well.
