Join our team! We are now hiring a Drafting Technician for our Hays, KS office!
Position is full time Monday to Friday. 100% Paid BCBS of KS Health Insurance and Humana Dental after 60 day new hire period is completed.
This position will utilize AutoDesk Revit with the SysQue add-on for drafting and Trimble AutoBid for plumbing takeoff and estimating.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Drafting, Estimation, or Construction Management is required. Prior industry experience is a plus but not required — training will be provided for AutoBid and plumbing estimating workflows. Candidates must have experience with Revit or other AutoDesk programs at a minimum.
During the onboarding and training period, the candidate will work alongside the Construction Coordinator to learn workflow expectations, drafting standards, estimating procedures, and project coordination practices. The length of the training period will be determined based on prior experience and demonstrated proficiency, with formal performance and job evaluation reviews conducted every 6 months to one year.
Key Responsibilities:
Drafting / BIM Coordination Duties
Develop and modify 3D plumbing and mechanical models in Revit using SysQue
Prepare coordinated construction drawings, details, and layouts
Assist in creating fabrication-ready drawings and spool sheets
Support clash detection and trade coordination with field and design teams
Update models and drawings to reflect RFIs, design revisions, and field changes
Maintain drawing standards, file organization, and revision control
Produce as-built drawings at project completion
Participate in coordination meetings and design reviews
Plumbing Estimation & Takeoff Duties
Perform material, equipment, and fixture takeoffs using Trimble AutoBid (training provided)
Review plans, specifications, and addenda to define project scope
Assist in developing labor, material, and subcontract pricing summaries
Coordinate vendor pricing and equipment quotations
Support bid preparation, proposal documentation, and budget updates
Track estimate assumptions, clarifications, and revisions
Identify value-engineering opportunities and material alternatives
Participate in bid reviews and preconstruction planning
Project Management–Related Responsibilities (Integrated with Role)
Assist with project scheduling, submittal tracking, and document control
Help prepare and update project logs, procurement schedules, and progress reports
Support communication between field supervisors, vendors, and project teams
Monitor drafting and estimating progress against project milestones
Participate in project kickoff and coordination meetings
Assist with cost tracking, change order documentation, and quantity updates
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Drafting, Estimation, or Construction Management (required)
Experience with Revit or AutoDesk design software (required minimum)
Strong attention to detail and ability to read construction drawings
Interest in learning plumbing systems and estimating workflows
Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
