Description

Please read the complete description and story to get the full picture of this one of a kind tractor.  It's my belief, all things considered as close to new tractor as you will ever find.  This tractor has had an easy life and used only for mowing a small acreage it's entire life.  The draw bar has never had an implement attached to it.  It operates as a new tractor.  After pricing new or near new mid size utility tractors at $26,000 - $28,000 for my mowing needs, it made more sense to me to invest the time and money in this low hour tractor and make it as new as possible.  I no longer need a mowing tractor.  It's my hopes this tractor will end up in a nice tractor museum or a private tractor collection as it deserves.  I'm the third owner of this tractor from new.

1978 Ford 2600 series gas tractor.  This is an offering of a one of a kind and truly unique Ford mid - size utility tractor.  This tractor has a total of documented 1,290 hours from new.  These popular Ford series tractors are well known for their reliability, versatility and low fuel operating cost.  It's a 3 cylinder 2. 6 liter gas engine with 37 hp.  Has 8 speed forward gears and two reverse gears.  Pulls a 6ft brush hog nicely.  I've added a brand new power steering system as of last month.  The original  "working  instrument cluster "  shows extremely low 1281 hours from new and is documented from the second owner who owned it for 3 years as the correct hours.  I have only put 8 hours on this tractor since my purchase 5 years ago.  The original owner owned this tractor for 40 years.  It's a very tight and smooth operating tractor as you would expect from a low hour tractor as this.  After owning this tractor for a while and coming to appreciate what a nice and well preserved tractor it is,  I could not bring myself to put it out in the field again and run up more hours and risk of damage to it.  I decided it was an ideal candidate for a restoration and the rest is history.  It had a few minor dents and scratches and some paint fading over it's 48 year life but well preserved.  I'm not a farmer, but I drove tractors as a young man for hundreds of hours on my uncle's farm.  I have restored and owned many antique cars and trucks over the years and always had the desire to restore a good tractor.  Its my belief that the better the car or truck in its original condition,  the better the restoration when you are finished. That is also true of restoring a tractor.  I added a new power steering system to it just recently for ease of operating.  Starts, runs and shifts as a new tractor.  No oil leakes.  Has the two stage clutch and 540 pto.  Has one hydraulic remote at rear of tractor.  The following is a detail list of the work and parts added to this tractor to make it as new as possible.  Many mechanical parts were replaced even though they were in good operable condition in order to make it trouble free as possible and due to this tractor being 48 years old I felt the need to replace most of the working parts.  I also have a large file of parts receipts for your inspection.  I also have the service manual and operators manual.  New instrument cluster, however, the fuel gauge doesn't not read fuel correctly as these are produced from overseas in Pakistan and have a reputation for fuel gauge not being accurate. The temperature gauge works good.

ENGINE:  engine uses no oil, does not smoke or have engine blow-by and runs very smooth. New Ford recommended spark plugs, new spark plug wires, new distributor cap , new rotor. New Petronix Solid State Ignition that  eliminates the need for points and condenser.  A new ignition coil.  New fuel pump.  Carburetor was completely rebuilt by a carburetor specialist from my area and new fuel lines a fuel filter.  New valve cover gasket.  New oil pan gasket.  New upper and lower radiator hoses with new clamps.  New fan belt.  New thermostat. The original radiator still has bright green anti - freeze and shows no sign of leaking so was not replaced.  New engine temperature sending switch.  New oil sending switch.  New starter solenoid.  New voltage regulator. New battery cables.  The starter and alternator were replaced  just prior to my purchase by the previous owner.  The battery is 2 years old.  New air filter.  New engine oil and filter.

TIRES:  New oversized 13.6 / 28 rear tires.  Front tires are about 80%.  Brakes are excellent.

HYDRAULICS:  The 3 point works as it should with new box leveler.  New hydraulic oil and filter.   The transmission operates with same oil as the hydraulic system.  New top plate transmission gasket and neutral safety switch.

BRAKES AND CLUTCH AND PTO:  brakes, clutch and pto are in excellent operating condition.

New upgraded drivers seat and retractable seat belt for safety.  New exhaust muffler and rain cap.
