The Kansas Department of Transportation is looking for dependable, trainable, team players with good communication skills to become part of our family. KDOT is currently hiring an Highway Maintenance Worker position in Hoxie, KS.
Upon successful completion of the training period and required qualifications, this position will advance to Highway Maintenance Worker I, with eligibility to participate in the Highway Maintenance Worker progression program. A Class B CDL must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained. KDOT provides CDL training at not cost to the employee. In exchange for KDOT paying the costs and expenses of the CDL training, employees will be required to sign a repayment agreement. Details of the agreement can be found here: CDL Repayment Agreement. An annual $450 Personal Protection Equipment allowances available. Insurance benefits, including health, prescription, dental and vision are provided at a minimal cost. Other benefits include vacation and sick leave. This position is subject to pre-employment physical and drug testing and selected candidate will be required to pass testing as a condition of employment in this position. Position duties & responsibilities: Maintain highways & facilities through activities such as repairs, resurfacing, mowing & snow & ice control. Operate dump trucks, small & medium-size loaders, mowers, tractor, rollers & power brooms to perform various maintenance tasks. Operate a loader or truck-mounted plow & spreader in snow & ice control operations. Perform manual labor associated with maintenance activities, including the operation of miscellaneous equipment such as chain saws, weed eaters, pumps, compressors, jackhammers, generators, power tools & various hand tools. Setup & remove temporary traffic control & serve as flag person for maintenance work zones. On-the-job training is provided.
