Job Title: Part-Time Church Janitor / Facilities Caretaker
Position Summary
The Part-Time Church Janitor helps maintain a clean, welcoming, and well-presented church campus. This role supports the church’s mission by ensuring all indoor and outdoor spaces are guest-ready, orderly, and visually inviting for worship services, meetings, events, and community use. Duties include routine cleaning, upkeep, light maintenance and repair, and setting up and taking down rooms for church and community activities.
We expect all staff and employees to exemplify Christian love in daily contact with people in this community. The custodian plays a key role in this and must treat all people with respect, courtesy, and politeness.
We hope that the care of our facilities by paid and volunteer Christian workers reflects pride in our church building and love for our church home.
Key Responsibilities
Campus Cleanliness & Guest-Ready Environment
· Unlock doors and turn on lights before Sunday worship, ensure the church is clean and ready for services, and close and secure the church after worship.
· Maintain cleanliness and readiness throughout the building, including worship spaces, classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas
· Inspect and clean the building and grounds before and after events (entryways, seating, supplies, etc.) to ensure all areas are always guest-ready
· Keep exterior walkways, entrances, and grounds safe, clean, and welcoming, reflecting pride in the property (snow and ice removal from sidewalks and entrances, for example)
· During severe weather, the custodian is to unlock the back doors to provide a storm shelter during a tornado warning or as directed by the law enforcement center
Room Setup & Teardown
· Set up rooms for services, meetings, classes, and events per requested layouts
· Break down and reset rooms to a clean, standard configuration after use
· Coordinate with staff and event leaders to ensure timely preparation
General Maintenance & Support
· Perform light maintenance tasks as ability permits
· The custodian will order building materials or schedule contractor work (electrician, plumber, etc.) up to a maximum of $500. Amounts exceeding this must be approved by the Trustees’ Chairperson
· Report maintenance or safety concerns promptly to the pastor and Trustees’ Chairperson
· Follow cleaning schedules, checklists, and procedures set out by the Trustees consistently

· Treat all people—members, guests, staff, volunteers, and community members—with Christian love, respect, courtesy, and hospitality
· Recognize that facility care contributes to the church’s spiritual and educational environment
Qualifications & Expectations
· Ability to work independently
· Strong attention to detail and pride in cleanliness and presentation
· Reliability in completing duties
· Ability to lift and move tables, chairs, and equipment
· Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends
· Respectful, courteous demeanor aligned with church values
· Attend weekly staff meetings
· Other duties as assigned
· Work directly with Trustees
· Ability to stoop and lift 25-50Lbs
· Ability to climb ladder
· Ability to work on your feet for long periods of time
