Description

This is Coco, she is 11 pounds, around 5 months old, and we are looking for a home for her. She is 3/4 chihuahua and 1/4 German shorthair pointer. She has not been spayed yet and is not utd on shots, but has been given 1 round of dewormer on 07/03.

She came to us on 07/02 from a family member who had to make the unfortunate decision to rehome Coco due to her high energy nature, and her home unable to meet her needs due to a busy work and summer schedule. She didn’t receive formal training in her prior home due to time restrictions, but in the 5 days she’s been with us, she is doing well with our training, (thankfully the long weekend gave us plenty of time to spend with and assess her behaviors.) She has learned the game of fetch and she knows to sit and lay down. She has done well potty training with only one accident (my fault.)

Strengths- Coco is very spirited with plenty of energy and love to give. She loves humans and any kind of attention. She is a good eater, and does good wearing a collar or a harness. With her high energy, she will need much mental and physical stimulation. She is trainable once some of puppy energy has been drained with physical activity, and she loves positive reinforcement and really tries to succeed.

Shortcomings- Coco is so high energy that she often doesn’t know what to do with all of it in her little body. That energy might be scary for younger kids. She barks out of excitement, frustration, and for attention. We have been working on it by ignoring the noise entirely, and rewarding her for being calm. She’s learning, but this training will need to continue. She is teething, so enjoys chewing right now. She also had the idea the first 2-3 days with us that she needs to nip to get attention, this behavior has subsided but might come back with excitement/frustration. She transitioned from biting to licking for attention seeking.

She does well with other dogs, and wants to play with our cats. My dog will be 13 this year and simply does not have the energy, drive, or temperament to deal with a dog this young long term. Overall, Coco will be a good fit for someone who is able to put time and love into her. She is sweet and goofy and has been a joy to be around the past 5 days.

We are asking a $50 rehoming fee to ensure a serious home. She will come with a collar and harness, food and treats, and other dog supplies.
