Join Our Team as Director of Public Works – City of Ellis

The City of Ellis (population 1,917) is seeking an experienced, motivated, and hands-on leader to serve as our next Director of Public Works. This is a working supervisor position responsible for leading a team of ten employees while actively participating in the operation and maintenance of the City's essential public services

The Director oversees a wide range of municipal operations, including:

• Streets and infrastructure
• Water and wastewater utilities
• Sanitation and recycling
• Parks and public facilities
• Cemetery operations
• Equipment and fleet maintenance
• General public works services

Additional responsibilities include:

• Conducting building inspections and code enforcement
• Reviewing and approving building permits
• Serving as the City's Zoning Officer and Cemetery Sexton
• Attending City Council and Planning Commission meetings
• Working collaboratively with city staff, elected officials, contractors, and the public

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred. Applicants without a CDL must be able to obtain one during employment.
• Must successfully complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing following a conditional offer of employment.
• Must establish residency within 30 miles of the Ellis city limits.

Salary and Benefits

Starting Pay: $31.73 per hour
