This charming little fellow is Panda Standing,  item #494 designed by Helen Perrin Farnlund for the 1961 line of Hagen Renaker miniature figurines.  At the ripe old age of 31, he was retired from the collection in 1992. He stands a petite 1-1/2".

Hagen Renaker is the only manufacturer of miniature ceramic animals remaining in the U.S. The company was founded in 1945 by John Renaker and his wife, Maxine, who passed away several years ago at the age of 89. Their daughter runs the company now, which continues to produce these lovely miniatures in San Dimas, CA. All Hagen pieces are hand painted, so there are slight and unique variations with each piece. Sizes can also vary with the number of items made from a single mold as the pieces get a bit larger as the mold is used and used again. The residue you see around the bottom of some pieces is just the remnants of the paper card on which many Hagen Renaker miniatures are mounted. You can remove it with some warm soapy water. This Panda has a bit of that card residue on the base, which you can see in the photos. Hagen Renaker offers their miniatures either with or without the mounting card. Many customers request their animals without a card. The card adds nothing to the value of the piece, but for novice collectors, it is proof that a piece is genuine Hagen Renaker.

This Panda Standing is in excellent condition; he does have some fine crazing, which you can see in the photos. This little fellow is an excellent addition to any collection!
