Job Description:
 

This Unclassified Social Work Supervisor, in the Social Services Department, is for the Sexual Predator Treatment Program.  The mission is to provide inpatient mental health care and treatment to adult clients in the Sexual Predator Treatment Program of Larned State Hospital:  to provide inpatient evaluation, care and mental health treatment, and substance abuse services in a controlled, secure environment. To improve safety to the public by providing services that include relapse prevention, education and coordinated services and; to provide quality support services to state agencies.  Participates in natural and/or assigned teams by applying job knowledge to provide quality customer services.  Key Tasks/Duties:

Social Work Duties

  • Makes collateral contacts (e.g. Courts, Families, and legitimately involved others) to gather and share information pertinent to the resident’s treatment, maintaining professional standards of confidentiality.
  • Make initial contact with newly admitted resident(s) to identify and implement indicated social services.
  • Assures patient rights have been given to resident and documentation is completed.
  • Provide resident/family education specific to Social Services role and indicated treatment.  Educates residents regarding psychiatric disorders, sexual disorders, treatment and self care as indicated.
  • Explain legal status to residents as indicated.
  • Provide supportive counseling to residents and family members, as needed.
  • The individual in this position has access to Protected Health Information (PHI) under the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA).  PHI must be safeguarded and released in accordance with the provisions of the HIPPA Privacy Regulations and state and federal law.
  • Facilitate psychosocial education groups with residents and/or family members. Provide therapy for residents and/or family members. Provides a minimum of 24 hours per week of direct services.

Treatment Team Duties

  • Participates in the completion and compilation of CITPs, to identify and implement treatment.
  • Works cooperatively in multi disciplinary treatment team meetings to assess resident’s treatment progress and identify on-going treatment needs in compliance with LSH Policy and Procedures and State/Federal Mandates.
  • Provides social work input with court ordered evaluations/reports and provides expert testimony as required.
  • Shares pertinent information vital to resident treatment and discharge.

Supervisory Duties

  • Supervises the work of social workers, Human Service Counselors, and Program Consultants assigned to assigned unit(s).
  • Completes performance evaluation on supervisees within time frames and guidelines of the Performance Review Forms.
  • Takes appropriate action to correct or resolve problems that may arise from supervisees performances.
  • Monitors supervisee’s completion of Biopsychosocial assessments for timeliness and compliance with established guidelines, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Attends Social Services Department meetings.
  • Promotes a positive cooperative working environment, supporting the vision, mission and strategic plan of the agency.
  • Serves as a member of the Social Services Executive Committee.
  • Orients new social workers to the Department and work areas, as needed.
  • Adheres to TJC standards and educates supervisees as to standards that pertain to their duties.

Documentation

  • Completes biopsychosocials, interim biopsychosocials, in collaboration with treatment team, meeting established time frames for completion of initial assessments, and updates (as indicated).
  • Document Social Services treatment course and progress in treatment in accordance with department and agency standards.
  • Documents Social Services/Treatment Course in ePNs, DAR Notes and/or in Patient/Family education form, as indicated.
  • Documents family contacts.

Special Qualifications/Education:   

Required:

Positions at Mental Health Facilities require licensure at time of hire.  Some positions require an approved drug test unless the incumbent is moving from one safety-sensitive position to another safety-sensitive position within the same agency performing substantially similar duties.

MANDT Certification within 60 days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.

Preferred:

Prefer LMSW with a minimum of 5 years of experience, with at least two of those being in a supervisory role.
