Concerned about the alcohol use of a friend or family member?

Red flags that family and friends might notice:

  • Continuing to use alcohol despite experiencing significant detrimental effects in their work, relationships, education, health, or other areas of their life.
  • Needing to consume more drinks than they used to--the development of tolerance.
  • Annoyance that someone is concerned about their drinking habits.
  • A failure to address important obligations as a result of their alcohol use.
  • Continuing to use alcohol in situations where it may be physically dangerous to do so, such as driving while intoxicated, drinking on the job, drinking while watching small children, and mixing alcohol with other drugs.
  • Even though they have stated that they wish to cut down or stop drinking, they are unable to do so.
  • The development of withdrawal symptoms.

2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

WaKeeney Public Library Community Room (610 Russell Avenue, WaKeeney KS)

Bill Davis, a licensed clinical addictions counselor, and his colleague, Jeanie Witt, will address signs of addiction to alcohol or drugs; the effects on self, health, work, and family; treatment and intervention; recovery; and relapse.  In an informal setting, with the philosophy that addiction is a disease of the human spirit, they will allow plenty of time for interactive discussion, questions and answers.  Bill founded Turning Point Professional Counseling Services in Hays  with multiple outreach offices throughout western Kansas, he sees clients in private practice and he works with children of addicted families. Jeanie also has several years of experience with alcohol/substance abuse counseling.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email parishnurse@ruraltel.net or leave a message on this site.

This event is sponsored by Prairie Faith Health Ministry and grant funding from Heartland Community Foundation; there is no cost to attend.
