Job Description:

Details:  Full time School Nurse for the 2017-18 school year, to be assigned to Hays High School and other locations as necessary.  All applicants must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and be a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas. 

School nurses strengthen and facilitate learning for children by improving and protecting their health status through the identification and elimination or modification of health-related barriers to the educational process.

The functions of the school nurse in USD 489 include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Implementation of the health policies established by the USD 489 Board of Education and the State of Kansas.

2. Planning and implementation of services that promote and protect optimal health and wellness.

3. Participation in health education, counseling, and screening to assist students, staff, and the school community in assuming greater responsibility for their own health.

4. Promoting a safe environment for the protection of students and staff.

5. Providing health resources for students, families, and staff.

Job Salary (if available): Salary and Benefits: The district’s 2016-2017 salary schedule has 12 categories, with salaries ranging from $35,870 to $57,520. Staff members employed by the school system for the first time can be granted credit for as much as 6 years of experience. A fringe benefit package includes single medical insurance coverage and term life insurance. 

Job Benefits (if available): This position is paid based on the USD 489 certified staff salary schedule and receives all applicable benefits. This is a 9-month school term position.
