About This Role:

The person in this position will be a member of the Farm Production team at the Northwest Research-Extension Center. Under the direction of the Farm Manager, they will perform all common agronomic tasks associated with crop production in northwest Kansas including pesticide application, tillage, planting, irrigation, and harvesting.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS degree in related field
  • Three years experience in large-scale farming operations
  • Vocational training in safe and proper use of pesticides
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written English
  • Ability to drive large and small farm equipment safely and skillfully
  • Ability to recognize plant diseases and signs of insect infestation
  • Knowledge of the hazards and proper use and ability to read and interpret instructions for the use of herbicides, insecticides, and fertilizers
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions and ability to make minor repairs and maintain agricultural equipment, vehicles, and power tools

Other Requirements:

·        Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment

  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Certified, or capable and willing to be certified within six months of employment, to apply restricted use pesticides to crops.
