CLARA BARTON HOSPITAL currently has an opening for a RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST. This position is under the direct supervision of the Director of Radiology and under the general supervision of the Radiologist, performs radiographic procedures to assist in a diagnosis of disease and injuries. Will perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations for subsequent evaluations and treatment by physician. The Radiologic /Ultrasound Technologist works effectively with patients and patients’ families and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel.
Must be a registered Radiologic Technologist with ultrasound training, or registry eligible. Willingness to work with realization that error may have serious consequences for patients, and to work with a variety of types of patients many of whom are in disturbed conditions. Must have tact and sympathy in dealing with patients and alertness to detect conditions dangerous to patient or personnel. Will Work under general supervision adhering closely to established procedures. Must be able to learn the Meditech computer system to be able to input patient information for billing and charge purposes and film tracking.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs radiographic procedures as prescribed by a physician
2. Determines proper techniques through the selection of voltage, current, and exposure time
3. Positions patients for the proper view of the affected area
4. Instructs patients as to the proper physiological requirements for the procedure
5 Performs ultrasound examinations such as, but not limited to: abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, obstetric and gynecological scans.
6 Qualified personnel may assists physician in such procedures as needle biopsies, amniocentesis, renal biopsies, etc., scans patient, marks patient’s body, assists as necessary.
7 Prepares contrast media and administers to patients either intravenously or through other body cavities
8 Maintains technique charts
9 Operates portable radiographic equipment for the performance of procedures throughout the hospital, including the cardiac care unit, recovery room and the emergency room.
10 Monitors the operation of the equipment
11 Contacts nursing stations to verify patient schedules, medications, and special requirements or restrictions
12 Assesses the patient’s condition prior to administering a contrast media or performing the radiographic procedure
13 Charts patient’s contrast administration and completes x-ray requests for billing
14 Ensures that any required consent forms are signed prior to the examination
15 Actively participates in the quality-assurance monitoring and recording efforts of the department.
16 Prepares all films so they can be read by the Radiologist
17 Schedules patients for exams
18 Enhances self-growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
19 Office duties, which includes completion of all necessary paperwork and filing of patient films and reports
