This vintage anthropomorphic elephant figurine is marked "JAPAN" on the back at the bottom. I believe it dates to the years following World War II. Many pieces from that time are marked "Occupied Japan," but many more are simply marked "Japan" or "Made in Japan."

This little elephant has his jazz on as he plays his gilt saxophone! He stands 2-1/2" tall, is 1-3/4" deep, and is 7/8" wide. He is in great shape with no chips or cracks. He'd be a great addition to a shadow box or printer's tray.
