Description
The Western Plains Animal Refuge is a no-kill, non-profit, all-volunteer shelter for domestic animals located in Hays, Kansas. We are dedicated to helping animals by providing shelter, foster, rehabilitation, adoption, and outreach services.
Currently, our organization does not have a facility and all of our animals must stay in foster homes. Our goal is to raise enough funds to build a new animal shelter to help meet the needs of animals in our community.

Adoptable Animals
To adopt an animal, please call us or visit the shelter. The adoption process includes an adoption application and an interview. If approved, we will make arrangements for you to take your new family member home. Adoptions for cats and dogs are $100. All animals are spayed or neutered, current on vaccines, and tested for common diseases.

Found Animals
To claim a stray animal, please call us at 785-301-2364 to confirm the identity of the animal.
- Adult male tabby found near the Russell and Gorham area.
Donate
Our shelter is funded completely by donations and private grants. Donations, both monetary and physical items, help us greatly.
You can give monetary donations by visiting the shelter, sending a check to the shelter, or by donating online (http://bit.ly/11YOXLs).
We already have a lot of some supplies, but we can always use the following: IAMS kitten food, Diamond Naturals indoor cat food, clumpable cat litter, paper towels, and Seventh Generation cleaning products. Donations can be brought to the shelter, or arrangements can be made for a volunteer to pick them up.
Volunteer and Foster
We are an all-volunteer organization, which means that all donations directly benefit the shelter and its animals. We need volunteers and fosters in order to exist. We can use help regardless of your age, experience, and ability. The first step is to contact the shelter, or by filling out an application on our website (http://bit.ly/1WwLQ3P).
