This position directs the organization’s patient care services at Larned State Hospital.  The purpose of this position is to provide executive leadership, strategic advice and consultation for the nursing department, to collaborate with the directors of the Psychiatric Services Program, State Security Program, and Sexual Predator Treatment Program to meet the program needs for nursing and to function as a liaison between medical staff, nursing department, and health services programs.  This position maintains the Continuing Education Providership with the Kansas State Board of Nursing for Larned State Hospital, ensures compliance with guidelines for providership, and collaborates with the Staff Training and Development Department to promote nursing knowledge and ensure competency of staff.  This position possesses knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span; demonstrates the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret that data to identify each patient’s age-specific care requirement needs.  This position serves as an active member of the Medical Executive Committee is a liaison and consultant with medical staff, nursing department staff, in the provision of evidence based care and treatment throughout the organization.  This position provides direction and leadership for the coordination of activities related to nursing and health care resource long range planning, including recruitment, education, retention, return to practice and professional practice environments.  The goals of this position are to ensure the delivery of mental and physical health care is based on evidence based practices, is in accordance with the disciplines standards and with the laws of the State of Kansas, and is in compliance with regulatory agencies (TJC, CMS, KDHE, KBSN) guidelines and to assume a leadership role in advancing the organization.

Minimum Qualifications: Unclassified.

Special Qualifications/Education: Masters Degree in Nursing or commensurate training, skill or knowledge in the care of mentally ill.  Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Kansas.  CPR and MANDT Certification within 60 days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.

Preferred Education or Experience:  Five years leadership and supervisory experience.  Five years in upper management nursing administration experience
