The Kansas Department of Transportation is looking for dependable, trainable, team players with good communication skills to become part of our family. KDOT is currently hiring an Equipment Operator position in Oakley, KS.
An annual $400 Personal Protection Equipment allowance is available. Insurance benefits, including health, prescription, dental and vision are provided at a minimal cost. Other benefits include vacation, sick and parental leave. This position is subject to pre-employment physical and drug testing. Selected candidate will be required to pass testing as a condition of employment in this position. Valid unrestricted driver’s license is required at the time of hire. The Equipment Operator position requires a Class A CDL with air brake option at the time of hire. Those without a Class A CDL may qualify as an Equipment Operator Trainee and receive on-the-job training to obtain a CDL within 90 days. Starting pay for Equipment Operator with CDL is $18.26/ hour and Equipment Operator Trainee without CDL is $17.00/hour.
Position duties & responsibilities: Maintain highways & facilities through activities such as repairs, resurfacing, mowing & snow & ice control. Operate dump trucks, small & medium-size loaders, mowers, tractor, rollers & power brooms to perform various maintenance tasks. Operate a loader or truck-mounted plow & spreader in snow & ice control operations. Perform manual labor associated with maintenance activities, including the operation of miscellaneous equipment such as chain saws, weed eaters, pumps, compressors, jackhammers, generators, power tools & various hand tools. Setup & remove temporary traffic control & serve as flag person for maintenance work zones. On-the-job training is provided.
