 The Trego County Sheriff's Office is currently seeking applicants for the position of a Full-time Deputy.

Job Description: 

 Under the supervision of the Sheriff and Undersheriff, the Patrol Deputy is a non-exempt position under FLSA. The job duties of the Patrol Deputy include but are not limited to performing general law enforcement duties in the protection of life and property within Trego County; patrolling County areas; investigating at the scene of a crime or traffic accident; providing security at the Trego County Courthouse; enforcing all federal, state, and local law resolutions; and providing responsive, courteous and efficient service to County residents and the general public. The following duties are normal for this position, other duties may be required and assigned.

Patrols the county and related areas to preserve law and order, answers a variety of calls and complaints involving automobile accidents, robberies, domestic disturbances, other misdemeanors and felonies, and citizen assistance calls. Conducts initial investigations and gathers evidence. Contacts witnesses and makes arrests. Assists and works with outside agencies on the apprehension of criminals and investigations. Transports prisoners to court and testifies in court on related activities. Serves civil court processes and warrants. Performs security checks of business and residential properties. Completes reports and records. Inspects equipment for compliance with standards. Provides security for the Trego County courthouse. Captures stray animals. Serves as first responder to emergency situations until the medical unit arrives. May be involved in additional specialized functions such as hazardous materials, aircraft rescue, and swift water rescue. Provides backup for front desk. Assists with jail bookings and other duties as needed. May perform SRO duties in providing safety for students in school, providing education, mentorships, and serving as a positive role model on school campuses. Assists landowners and farmers with agricultural animals that have escaped. Provides assistance to the public particularly in times of disaster, such as snowstorms, floods, and tornadoes. Acts as a witness in court hearings. Attends and completes all required training and demonstrates proficiency. Completes and turns in all reports and necessary paperwork. Enforces traffic laws and assists motorists. Provides routine patrol duties on County roads, highways, and streets. Seizures and preserves evidence, interviews witnesses, photographs evidence, completes accurate and technical reports, provides evidence to the County Attorney or other prosecutors. Responds to dangerous situations often with no backup.
